Cameron Conference FAQ

What is the Cameron Conference?

The Cameron Conference is named in honour of the late M. Laurence Cameron, a professor at Dalhousie for many years who devoted much of his academic career to the development of our Honours program, and to the education, training, and mentoring of Biology students. The annual event we know as the Cameron Conference was started by Laurence as a way for Honours students to showcase their research. It was then, and remains today, one of the biggest and best Honours conferences at Dalhousie.

Who can attend?

The Cameron Conference is open to the public. Members of the Dalhousie community and presenters' family/friends are encouraged to attend.

How will the Poster sessions work?

A pdf of each student's poster, plus a recording of them presenting their work will be available on this website prior to the conference. During the poster session, judges and attendees can virtually visit students in Collaborate break-out rooms. Links to the individual rooms will be available on this website.

How will the Oral Presentation sessions work?

These sessions will be run as Teams Live Events. Each of the oral presentation sessions will include presentations from three Honours students, with each student given 12 minutes to present their Honours work, plus 3 minutes for questions. Links to the Live Events will be available on this website. Unlike a Teams Meeting, these are one-way broadcasts. This means that audience members are unable to turn on their video or microphone.

How can I ask a question during the Oral Presentations?

Questions for our presenters are encouraged, but they must be typed in the chat. Please make sure you post as your name (as opposed to "anonymous"). The posts will immediately be received by the Q&A moderator. At the completion of each presentation, the session host will read the questions and the student will have an opportunity to answer.

If I have technical problems during the conference, who should I contact?

James Wilson from Academic Technology Services will be helping us with the Teams Live Events. If you have trouble connecting to them, you can contact him at james.wilson@dal.ca. We encourage you to try connecting to the events prior to the day of the conference so that there is plenty of time for James to help you with any technical issues. If everything is working for you, the link will take you to Teams with a screen that says "The live event hasn't started".
