University faculty use the greenhouse to prepare plant material for student laboratories. Researchers grow plants under controlled conditions for studies of evolution and genetics.
The greenhouse consists of eight glass enclosed rooms, each with its own separate control of temperature and light. Located conveniently nearby are rooms used for soil preparation and potting, and the Biology Herbarium.
The Dalhousie Cactus Collection features the largest grouping
of cacti in Atlantic Canada. Donated to Dalhousie by Dartmouth
resident Paul Brunelle, the collection also boasts hundreds of
photographs, books and papers on the subject.
